On 27 July 2015, at the age of 84, Dr. Kalam was speaking on a habitable planet at the Indian Institute of Management (IIM) Shillong when he suffered a cardiac arrest and fell unconscious. Around 06:30 in the evening, he was taken to the ICU at Bethany Hospital where he died two hours later. He was cremated near his native village Rameswaram on 30 July 2015.
